Preston made their first capture of the transfer window by signing Simon Whaley from League Two side Bury. Whaley who plays on the right hand side of midfield will follow in the footsteps of David Nugent who joined from Gigg Lane this time last year.
Whaley who is a pacey 20 year has scored seven goals from midfield this season for Bury and is likely to go straight into the squad for next weeks clash with Millwall. The midfielder signed for an initial fee of £250,000 which could rise to £300,000. Whaley was shown to the Deepdale crowd before the start of the FA Cup tie with Crewe but was inelligible to play as he was cup tied due to playing for Bury early in the competition.
Davies looks set to turn his attention to the capture of Matt Fryatt at Walsall as it now appears the Pearson move from Celtic is dead in the water.
