Across The Pond
Brian McBride/Chicago Fire & LA Galaxy/David Beckham & Eddie Lewis
Brian McBride and Chicago Fire went toe-to-toe with David Beckham, Eddie Lewis and the LA Galaxy on Saturday at Toyota Park hoping to end a run of three straight defeats. Galaxy failed to build on last week's emphatic win over DC United, begging the question whether or not it was a flash out of the pan:
Chris Rolfe gave Fire the lead before former Preston winger Eddie Lewis equalised after getting on the end of a Chris Klein cross from close range. Going in at the break with the scores even, Galaxy will have been hoping that they could come out after half time all guns blazing and add to last week's win over DC. However this was not to be the case as just before the hour mark, Fire went ahead again this time through Cuauhtemoc Blanco before Chris Rolfe added his second two minutes later. Both Beckham and Lewis were in from the start for Galaxy.
Galaxy are still second bottom of the Western Standings and are eleven points behind leaders Houston whilst Fire are third in the Eastern Standings, nine points behind Columbus who have clinched a play-off spot.
Danny Dichio/Toronto FC
Danny Dichio made the starting eleven for Toronto FC before being replaced just after an hour played. Toronto earned themselves a point after drawing with Houston Dynamo at BMO field.
The Reds went behind after Hunter Freeman put the ball into his own net after 23 minutes gone before Marvell Wynne equalised with just over 15 minutes to go.
Toronto are still rock bottom of the Eastern Standings but are just two points behind Kansas City.
