Old Boys Weekend Round Up
After a whole season consisting of 46 games, it all boiled down to just one game at Wembley that will decide the fate of 6 teams. The first of those two teams was Hull City who went toe-to-toe against Bristol City on Saturday. The hotly contested game finished 1-0 to Hull with veteran striker Dean Windass converting a superb volley from the edge of the area to send the Hull supporters into raptures. Former Preston loanee, Darren Byfield came on as a second half substitute but was unable to make the desired impact that Gary Johnson would have wanted. The result see's Byfield and Bristol City having to fight it out in the Championship for another season but can take pride in their first season at this level. City have proved they have what it to mix with the leagues big spenders and will be hoping they can go one better next time round.
In League One, Brian Stock and his Doncaster Rovers team mates faced Yorkshire rivals, Leeds United. Leeds were hoping for a quick return to the Championship but thanks to a superb header from Hayton, who got on the end of a brilliantly executed corner kick from Stock, their hopes were diminished. David Lucas watched on from the Leeds United substitute's bench.
Last but by no means least, the League Two Play-Off Final took place today where former Preston midfielder David Flitcroft, watched on from the dugout. Flitcroft who is assistant manager at Rochdale started his playing career at Preston back in 1992 but did of course reach the play-offs with Dale as a player back in 2002. Unfortunately though, like in 01/02 Dale failed to seal promotion after a 3-2 defeat to Stockport County at Wembley leaving them condemned to Two football next season.
