Old Boys Weekend Round Up
As ever there is plenty of action to report on concerning former Lilywhites throughout the leagues this week. In the Premier League, Everton and David Moyes earned three points after seeing off newly promoted Stoke City in a close encounter with the score finishing 3-2. Carlo Nash was an unused substitute for the Toffees whilst Ricardo Fuller was in from the start for Stoke with Richard Cresswell making a late substitute appearance.
Elsewhere, David Nugent was an unused substitute for Portsmouth's 2-1 win over Middlesbrough at Fratton Park on Saturday as was David Healy for Sunderland's 1-1 draw with Wigan. Kevin Kilbane started at the JJB but was substituted early on in the second half.
In the Championship, Brian Stock was in from the start as he and his Doncaster Rovers teammates were defeated 1-0 by the ever impressive Birmingham City at St Andrews. Doncaster now find themselves in 14th place.
Simon Davey and his Barnsley side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Blackpool at Bloomfield Road. Rob Kozluk and Jon Macken were both involved for Barnsley.
David Jones and his Wolves teammates enjoyed an assured 3-1 win over Charlton Athletic to see them retain their lofty position at the top end of the Championship. New boy Matty Hill watched on from the stands and is yet to make his debut for the club.
Burnley picked up their first win of the season against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground thanks to two goals from former Preston skipper, Graham Alexander including one from the penalty spot. Kelvin Wilson was at the heart of the Nottingham Forest defence but was unable to thwart his former teammate in his tracks.
Patrick Agyemang got himself on the score sheet for QPR on Sunday after coming on as a second half substitute. Agyemang completed the scoring as he netted the fourth goal in injury time to give Rangers a 4-1 win over Southampton.
Former loan man, Paul Gallagher notched his first goal for Plymouth on Saturday, albeit a scant consolation as the Pilgrims were defeated 2-1 by Norwich City at Home Park. Gallagher has now matched the total number of goals he scored for Preston during his six month loan spell.
Elsewhere in the Championship there was more doom and gloom for another former loaned striker in the form of Tamas Priskin. Priskin was in the starting eleven for Watford but was unable to make the desired impact as the Hornets were beaten 2-0 by Sheffield Wednesday.
To League One now where former England international, Michael Ricketts netted two for the Saddlers as they saw off Bristol Rovers. Ricketts was instrumental for the Saddlers as he opened the scoring as well as netting a 95th minute penalty for the Walsall.
Things were not so peachy for Chris Lucketti however as he and his Huddersfield teammates were labelled 'spineless' by manager Stan Ternant. Huddersfield lost to Tranmere at home and even found themselves in front.
Elsewhere in League One, It was quite the opposite for another former skipper as Sean Gregan and his Oldham teammates enjoyed a 2-0 win over the MK Dons at Boundary Park.
To the football league's basement division now where Shrewsbury put seven past a sorry looking Gillingham. Former Lilywhites Michael Jackson and Dave Hibbert got themselves on the score sheet for Paul Simpson's team.
