Old Boys Weekend Round Up
Starting in the Premier League, ex Preston boss David Moyes' side played host to already relegated Derby County. Lancashire born, Leon Osmon scored the only goal of the game to see Everton continue their pursuit of that lucrative 4th Champions League spot. David Jones and Eddie Lewis both started for Derby whilst Tyrone Mears came on as a second half substitute after his return from injury.
In the FA Cup, Simon Davey led his time out at Wembley in the Semi Final as they looked to see of fellow Championship club Cardiff City. A Joe Ledley goal was enough to dent the South Yorkshire club's FA Cup dream. Rob Kozluk, who of course made just the solitary appearance for North End on loan from Sheffield United, featured in this game but was unable to stop Cardiff from reaching the FA Cup final.
In the Championship it was a case of ex Preston meets current Preston, at least at Loftus Road it certainly was. Pacey forward, Patrick Agyemang started up front for The R's against the club he left in January but it was 35 year old Gareth Ainsworth, a former North End favourite who stole the show. After coming on as a second half substitute he not only scored a great lob from the edge of the area, but provided an assist for Dexter Blackstock's equaliser in the closing minutes of the game.
In League one, on loan Brett Ormerod helped Nottingham Forest to a 3-1 win against Cheltenham whilst winger Joe Anyinsah was on the receiving end of an identical result as Crewe lost to Southend. Jason Jarrett's and indeed Oldham Athletic's good form came to an abrupt end as they were on the wrong end of a 3-0 hiding away at Swindon. The Latics are now six points away from the play-offs with just four games to go.
Veteran striker, Marcus Stewart got himself on the score sheet for Yeovil and put his side ahead after 38 minutes against Carlisle. Late goals from the Cumbrian club cancelled out the former Sunderland and Preston strikers' effort.
In League 2 former gaffer, Paul Simpson and his Shrewsbury side's poor form continued as they slumped to a 4-1 defeat at Chesterfield. Shrewsbury are now just six points above the relegation places with five games left, leaving it all to play for.
