Old Boys Weekend Round-Up Part Two
Despite attentions turning to the FA Cup, Leagues One and Two had a full programme of fixtures this weekend meaning that a handful of former Lilywhites will have been in action for their respective clubs.
Firstly, former loaned defender Paul Reid was in the starting eleven for Colchester United's trip to Bristol Rovers. Reid and his fellow defenders kept a clean sheet but the Us were unable to pose a threat at the other end meaning that a 0-0 draw was all that could be mustered.
David Lucas couldn't force is way back in the Leeds United starting line-up meaning he had to make do with a place on the substitutes bench. The former North End stopper has been sharing the number one jersey with Ankergren at present but currently finds himself playing second fiddle to the Scandanavian.
After last week's embarrassing defeat to Hereford, Oldham's Sean Gregan was determined his fellow defenders were not going to endure a repeat this weekend as the Latics took on Stockport County. The Oldham defence were unable to keep a clean sheet but did manage to restrict the goals against tally to just one and emerged as 3-1 winners.
After his winning goal last week, Joe Anyinsah was back in the starting line-up for Carlisle as the Cumbrians visited the Wirral to take on Tranmere. Unfortunately, Carlisle were unable to build on last week's win as Tranmere proved to be too strong, sending Carlisle back up the M6 with a 3-1 defeat for their efforts.
Into League Two now where, firstly, Colin Murdock was at the heart of Accrington Stanley's defence as the Lancashire outfit took on Barnet. Barnet struck first after just 14 minutes but Paul Mullin equalised just after the restart to salvage a point.
Brian Barry-Murphy opened the scoring for Bury's 2-1 win over Aldershot on Saturday. Barry-Murphy put his side ahead with just four minutes to go 'til half time before Morrell made it two on the stroke of half-time, ending a frantic last five minutes of the first period of play. Aldershot pulled one back through Davies but was a mere consolation goal.
Kevin Nicholls made his comeback from injury after coming on as a 71st minute substitute during Luton's 3-3 draw with Bradford at Kenilworth Road. Omar Daley was in from the start for Bradford but was substituted with five minutes to go.
Paul Simpson's Shrewsbury notched up a 1-0 home win over Darlington on Saturday. Walker put the home side ahead after just five minutes and proved to be enough to seal the points for the Shrews. Pawel Abbott was involved for Darlo before being substituted after 78 minutes.
Adam Nowland kept his place in the Notts County side for their 4-2 win over Port Vale on Saturday whilst Steve Basham was an unused substitute for Exeter City's 1-0 defeat to Gillingham on Saturday.
Finally, in the Conference, Chris Day was between the sticks for Stevenage's trip to Salisbury. Stevenage sealed a 4-2 win with two late goals coming from Cole in the 87th and 90th minute.
