David Coote played local Sunday morning football for the team his uncle managed and ended up as their club Assistant Referee aged 12! Local referees persuaded him to take the course when he reached 14.
From the Newark Alliance he was promoted on to the Notts Alliance list and the Unibond assistant referees’ list, and spent three years at that level.
In 2004 he was promoted again on to the referees’ list for the Northern Counties League, and in August 2006 was promoted to the Football League assistant referees’ list His first game as a National List Assistant Referee at StockportCounty v Hereford, later joining the Premier League assistant referees’ list.
In 2007/08 saw him promoted to Conference as a Referee and covered his first football league match in the same season as Bradford beat Morecambe 1-0 on 5 April 2008. The 2010/11 season saw David Coote join the Football League as a referee.
His first Championship match was at Deepdale in the 1-1 draw against Leicester. His previous Tranmere match was a 2-0 home defeat to Stoke in the Carling Cup on 25 September 2013.
His last match was Chesterfields 3-1 win at Fletwood in the JPT Northern Final First Leg on 4 February.
