Geoff Eltringham got introduced into refereeing through a work college, he finished playing football after leaving secondary school and wanted to keep involved in football and thought refereeing was the best way to do that.
He gained a mid-season promotion to the Football League Assistants List in 2008/09 and was promoted to the Panel List of Referees at the end of the same season. His first game was a 2-2 draw between Morecambe andHerefordon 8 August 2009
It was on 9 February 2010 when he got his first game in the Championship as Sheffield Wednesday beatBlackpool2-0.
Last season he had the joint highest number of red cards with 13, this season he has only had 3 so far which his third being in the last match as Charlton won 4-0 atHalifaxin the FA Cup on 19 November. His last Bury match was a 1-1 home draw againstHerefordon 18 September which saw a Ryan Lowe equaliser on 90 minutes afterHerefordhad been reduced to 10 men with 18 minutes to go.
