Geoff Eltringham got introduced into refereeing through a work college, he finished playing football after leaving secondary school and wanted to keep involved in football and thought refereeing was the best way to do that.
He gained a mid-season promotion to the Football League Assistants List in 2008/09 and was promoted to the Panel List of Referees at the end of the same season. His first game was a 2-2 draw between Morecambe and Hereford on 8 August 2009
It was on 9 February 2010 when he got his first game in the Championship as Sheffield Wednesday beat Blackpool 2-0.
The 2010/11 he had the joint highest number of red cards with 13.
His last match was a 2-1 home victory for Accrington over Bristol Rovers on 22 October 2013. His last Tranmere was his opening match of 2012/13 with a 3-1 home win over Leyton Orient on 18 August 2012.
