The Rushton family has refereeing in their blood. Jim Rushton was a football league referee from 1987 to1996, now his son Steve has taken over the mantle.
Steve Rushton was promoted to the National List for the start of the 2009/10 season after refereeing in the Blue Square Premier.
His first league match was a 1-0 win for Chesterfield at home to Northampton on 15 August 2009.
His first Championship match was the Lilywhites defeat to Swansea in 2010/11 season.
He produced 8 red cards in his first 11 matches of the 2012/13 season, including two in his last Sheffield United’s match at Scunthorpe which finished 1-1 on 8 September. The Blades were reduced to nine men when Doyle was sent off on 15 minutes and Flynn on 72 minutes. Since his last red card on 6 October he has gone 17 matches without one.
His previous match was a 2-2 draw between Bradford and Southend on 29 March.
