Mark Haywood started his refereeing career in West Yorkshire in 1993 progressing through the West Yorkshire and Northern Premier Leagues to reach the National List of assistant referees in 2002. Four years later in 2006 he was promoted to the National List of referees and made his league debut in a 1-1 draw between NottsCounty and Swindon on 23 September 2006, producing five yellow cards.

 

Mark Haywood went 71 matches between 9 April 2011 to 19 January 2013 before he produced a red card when he sent off Zoko for Notts County against Sheffield United.

 

His last game was a 1-0 home win for Burton over Plymouth on 5 April. His last Carlisle match was a 2-1 FA Cup home win over non-league Boreham Wood on 19 November 2013.
