Tim Robinson started with the Sussex FA before achieving Level 2 promotion in the summer of 2010 to the National Conference Leagues.

The summer of 2012 saw Tim Robinson become a Level 1 Referee and promotion to the Football League. His first match was a 1-0 win for Accrington at Southend on 18 August 2012. His first red card came in his fourth match as Wycombe was reduced to ten men in their 3-1 defeat at Chesterfield. October 2012 saw his first League One game with a 0-0 draw between Brentford and Shrewsbury. On 19 February 2013 saw him referee his first Championship match with Hull defeating Blackburn 2-0.

On 8 November 2014 there were angry scenes at Weston-super-Mare's Woodspring Stadium when the FA Cup First Round match against Doncaster was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch just 20 minutes before kick-off. His decision was met with fury from visiting supporters who had made the long journey down to the West Country.

His last match was a 2-1 victory for Plymouth at Wycombe on 12 September. His last Bees match match was a 3-0 home defeat against Norwich.
