Last updated : 27 September 2009 By @pnemad

Andy Penn qualified as a referee in 1986 and progressed through youth football and the West Midlands leagues before being promoted to the Football League as an assistant referee in 1996.

He was promoted to the national list of referees in 2002 and his league debut as a referee came on 18 August 2002 in a 2-2 draw between Swansea and Rushden in League Two, which saw four bookings and each side reduced to ten men.

So far this season he has kept his cards in his pocket on five of his seven matches, his last game was on 19 September in Blackpool's 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest. His last Reading match was on 21 February 2009 when the Royals were beaten 2-0 at home by Bristol City.
