Dave Phillips is a police officer from Sussex. He started Refereeing in 1981 whilst still playing in his local area and after breaking his leg twice, in eight months, in the same place in 1987 he started concentrating on refereeing.
He progressed through West Sussex League, Sussex County League, Southern League, then in 2003 a double promotion onto the Panel League as Referee and Football League as Assistant Referee. He was the referee in the 2008 Youth Cup Final between Chelsea and ManchesterCity and for the start of the 2008/09 season he was promoted to The National List of Referees.
His first match was a 4-0 win for Brentford over Grimsby on 16 August 2008. His last game was a 1-0 win for Accrington at Bristol Rovers on 28 January 2014. His last Colchester match was a 1-1 draw at Bristol City on 28 September 2013
