Chris Sarginson finished playing Sunday League football through injury and became a club secretary then a referee. Although he didn’t have any intention of entering the professional game he always applied for promotion.

In 2005 he was appointed as a Select Group Assistant Referees and as an Assistant Referee in an FA Challenge Vase Final, the Football League Division Two Play-Off Final and a UEFA Cup Tie.

He was appointed as a referee to the National League for the 2008/09 season and took charge of his first match on 16 August 2008 as Morecambe lost 3-1 at home to Rotherham. It was the Shrimps who visited Bradford when Chris Sarginson last officiated a match at Valley Parade, Bradford winning 2-0 on 13 April 2010.

This will be the first time he has taken charge of a PNE match, whilst his last game was a 1-0 home defeat for Scunthorpe against Norwich.
