Born in March 1963, Scott Mathieson has been a National list match official since 1990, spending four seasons on the line before being promoted to the referees list in 1994. His early careers in refereeing were spent in and around his native Stockport and on the Cheshire League. In 2001 he officiated on the finals of The FA Vase and Football League Cup which saw Liverpool beat Birmingham on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
His last Newcastle match was earlier in the season when Newcastle beat Plymouth at St.James’s Park on 19 September. His last game was Morecambe’s 4-2 home defeat against Northampton on 24 October.
His assistants on Monday will be Russell Fletcher from Derbyshire and William Smallwood from Cheshire. The fourth official is Carl Boyeson from East Yorkshire who took charge of PNE’s Carling Cup victory on 25 August 2009 when the Lilywhites beat Leicester 2-1.
