The Rushton family has refereeing in their blood. Jim Rushton was a football league referee from 1987 to1996, now his son Steve has taken over the mantle.

Steve Rushton was promoted to the National List for the start of the 2009/10 season after refereeing in the Blue Square Premier.

His first league match was a 1-0 win for Chesterfield at home to Northampton on 15 August 2009.

His first Championship match was the Lilywhites defeat to Swansea in 2010/11 season.

Sor far this season he has produced the most cards in the Football League, in his last match involving Doncaster on 28 August saw Hull’s ex PNE Captain Paul McKenna sent off as the Dons won 3-2. His last match saw Cheltenham beat Wycombe 4-0 on Boxing Day.
