Taylor started refereeing in the Northern Premier League in 2002 before progressing to officiate in the Conference North in 2004. He was appointed to the Football League List at the start of the 2006/07 season. His first match appointment was a 0-0 draw between League Two sides Wrexham and Peterborough on 12 August 2006.
Taylor has produced 48 yellow and 2 red cards in 20 matches this season. His last game was between Cheltenham and Walsall on 20 December.
His last game which involved Preston was on 12 April 2008 when Preston lost 2-1 at Deepdale against Barnsley. The Lilywhites goals came from a Foster own goal and saw Sedgwick get a yellow card.
Also in 2007/08 saw him refereeing the match at Coventry on 1 September 2007 which saw a booking for Mawene and another 2-1 defeat.
Rob Merchant of Stafford and Gary Sutton from Lincolnshire are the assistants, while David Benton from South Yorkshire is the fourth official.
