Geoff Eltringham got introduced into refereeing through a work college, he finished playing football after leaving secondary school and wanted to keep involved in football and thought refereeing was the best way to do that.
He gained a mid-season promotion to the Football League Assistants List in 2008/09 and was promoted to the Panel List of Referees at the end of the same season. His first game was a 2-2 draw between Morecambe and Hereford on 8 August 2009
It was on 9 February 2010 when he got his first game in the Championship as Sheffield Wednesday beat Blackpool 2-0.
This will be only his third Championship match this season and the first time since his last visit to Deepdale. His other Championship was also in Lancashire with Burnley’s 3-0 victory over Leicester.
He has not been shy with the cards this season with a red card in almost every two matches and the most by a Football League referee. His last match was a 1-0 home win for Crewe over Southend on 15 March. This will be the first time he has taken charge of a Coventry match.
