Jock Waugh began refereeing when his next door neighbour required a referee for a Sunday match. He moved up to the Conference and was in charge of a Play Off Semi Final when Torquay beat Histon 2-0 on 1 May 2009.
He was promoted to the National List of referees in 2009/10 with a 1-1 draw and no cards between Port Vale and Rochdale on 8 August 2009, his first Championship match was at Deepdale in the 2010/11 season.
His last match on 26 November saw seven yellow and one red card as Notts County beat Scunthorpe 3-2. His last Hartlepool match was a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth on 30 April 2011.
