David Webb got involved in refereeing when he took a refereeing course after seeing an advertisement in a football programme and via talking to referees when he was playing local football.

He was promoted to the National List of Referees at the start of the 2008/09 season and took charge of his first football league match on 9 August 2008 as Bury beat Bradford 1-0. His first Championship match was at Deepdale with a 2-0 victory of Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough.

His last match was a 2-0 win for Rochdale over Barnet on 1 September 2012 March.

His previous match involving Crawley was at the start of last season in a 2-2 draw at Port Vale on 6 August 2011 in which Crawley was reduced to 10 men on 77 minutes with the dismissal of John Dempster.
