Player Profile - Steve Uzelac

Steven Uzelac was born in Doncaster on 12 March 1953. He was the product of the same Doncaster youth team as another former PNE favourite in Mike Elwiss.

His debut came on 16 October 1971 in a 3-1 win at Newport which also saw Elwiss score a brace on his debut. Uzelac made 31 appearances during the 1971/72 season as the Dons finished in twelfth position in Division Four. His first goal for the club came in the 2-1 home defeat against Stockport on 20 November

The 1972/73 saw Uzelac score his first league goal as he made 39 appearances as Doncaster finished in seventeenth position. The following season saw Doncaster finish in twenty second position with Uzelac making 30 appearances, netting twice.

His most productive season in front of goal came in the 1974/75 season as he scored three goals from 37 appearances as the Dons finished in seventeenth position again. The 1975/76 season saw the Dons finish in tenth position with Uzelac scoring twice in 25 appearances. In February 1976 Uzelac joined Mansfield on loan making 2 appearances for the Stags.

His final season for Doncaster was in 1976/77 when he scored one goal in 22 appearances with the Dons finishing in eighth position. After scoring 9 goals from 185 appearances Uzelac joined Preston in May 1977.

He only made two appearances in Preston's promotion season under Nobby Stiles. His debut was in a 0-0 draw at Port Vale on 5 November with his second appearances a week later in a 3-1 defeat at home to Wrexham.

The Lilywhites return to Division Two saw Uzelac hampered by injuries and only made 7 appearances during the season; most of these were towards the end of the season when he played in six of the last seven matches. His last appearance for Preston cam on the final day of the season on 22 May in a 2-0 win at Millwall as Preston finished seventh.

In March 1980 Uzelac joined Fourth Division Stockport were he made 9 appearances. The 1980/81 season saw him make 17 appearances as Stockport finished twentieth.

His final season in league football was in 1981/82 which he scored the first league goals for the club with 2 goals from 5 appearances as Stockport finished two places higher in eighteenth position.
