Player Profile Chris Day
Christopher Nicholas Day was born in Leytonstone on 28 July 1975. He began his career with A Youth Training Scheme with Tottenham. Day didn't make a league appearance for Spurs and was transferred for a fee of £225,000 to Crystal Palace in August 1996.
Day made his debut for Palace in a 1-0 defeat at Birmingham on 18 August 1996. He made 24 league appearances during the 1996/97 season conceding 27 goals and made 8 clean sheets.
In July 1997, Day was transferred to Watford in a deal which took Kevin Miller to Selhurst Park. Due to the form of Alec Chamberlain he did not make a league appearance in the 1997/98 or 1998/99. But he did make his first team debut in a 4-0 League Cup defeat at Sheffield United on 23 September 1997. His other appearance in the 1997/98 season was in a defeat at Fulham in the Auto Windscreens Shield.
He finally got his chance in the 1999/2000 season when he made 11 league appearances in three spells. His league debut for Watford was in a 3-2 home defeat to Wimbledon on 7 August 1999. Four further appearances in August led to two victories, one at home to Bradford (1-0) and other was at Anfield on 14 August against Liverpool (1-0). The two defeats were at Sunderland (2-0) and a home defeat to Aston Villa (1-0). The two appearances in February were both defeats at Leicester (1-0) and at Aston Villa (4-0). Day's three final appearances in May was a 3-1 defeat at Leeds, a 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough and his final appearance on 14 May 2000 ended in a 1-0 home win against Coventry.
In December 2000, Day joined Division Three Lincoln for a three month loan and made 14 league appearances. He made his debut on 16 December 2000 in a 1-1 home draw against Rochdale and his last was in the LDV Vans defeat at home to Port Vale.
In July 2001, Day left Watford to join Q.P.R on a free transfer. He made his Q.P.R debut on 11 August in a 1-0 home win against Stoke. Day was the first choice keeper making 16 appearances until he suffered a double fracture of the right leg in a 1-1 draw against Oldham on 27 October.
Whilst recovering from injury Day joined non-league Aylesbury in October 2002 for a two month loan. Day regained his QPR shirt in a 3-0 win at Huddersfield in March 2003 and kept it for the remainder of the season.
After making 29 league appearances in 2003/04 as Q.P.R finished runners-up in Division Two. After 28 league appearances for Q.P.R, Day post his position to Simon Royce and in February 2005 he joined fellow Championship side Preston on loan.
The loan was to cover for a month as Andy Lonergan had a long term injury and Gavin Ward had been injured in the previous match as Chris Neal came on in the last few minutes of the televised game against Ipswich.
His debut was the only defeat in his six match stay in a 2-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest on 23 February. His home debut was three days later in a 1-0 victory against Burnley. After a 2-1 victory against West Ham Preston had two draws, 2-2 against Wolves and a 1-1 at Sheffield United. His final appearance for the Lilywhites was in a 2-0 win at a former club Watford on 19 March. A longer deal could not be arranged and Billy Davies signed Carlo Nash from Middlesbrough as Day returned to QPR for two further matches, the last was on 19 April in a 2-0 defeat at Burnley. He had made 87 league appearances.
In August 2005 Day joined Oldham and started the season in goal, making his debut in a 2-0 home win against Yeovil on 6 August. Day played 30 league games, before being dropped after the 3-2 defeat at Huddersfield on 28 January 2006, with Lee Grant coming in on loan from Derby for the final games of the season.
In total he made 36 appearances in all competitions and 10 clean sheets, but he did concede 50 goals. During that time he also had 16 different central defensive partners play in front of him.
Day joined Millwall in August 2006 and made his debut in the 3-2 defeat at Cheltenham on 26 August 2006. He made 5 appearances in 2006/07 as Lennie Pidgeley had the first team shirt for most of the season. Day started the season in goal in the 2007/08 season, following a pre-season injury to Pidgeley but lost the goalkeeping shirt to Pidgeley after five matches with Millwall registering only one victory.
Day also received 6 caps at England Under 21 level.
