Player profile - Jon Davidson
Jonathan Stewart Davidson was born in Cheadle, Staffordshire on 1 March 1970. Davidson started his career with Derby and was captain of the youth and reserve teams.
Davidson signed professionally for the club in January 1988 and made his debut in the 1989/90 season during a time the Rams were severely depleted with injuries. Davidson made 6 league appearances during the season. The 1990/91 season saw Derby relegated from the First Division but he could not hold down a regular first team position as he only made 5 league appearances. Davidson's final appearance was in the 1991/92 season before joining Preston.
Davidson made his debut as a right back on the opening day of the 1992/93 season in a 1-1 draw at home to Bournemouth . His only league goal came in his ninth appearance in a 2-1 home defeat against Plymouth on 3 October 1992. He also scored in the 5-4 home defeat in the FA Cup First Round replay tie against Bradford City .
Davidson could play in either full back positions and made a total of 21 league appearances for PNE. He made 13 appearances as a right back; 5 as a left back and a further three appearances as a substitute.
His final appearance for Preston was in a 2-1 defeat at Wigan in the Autoglass Trophy on 6 January 1993. Davidson went on loan to Chesterfield in January 1993 and mage one substitute appearance.
Whist at Preston Davidson suffered a serious knee injury which didn't respond to treatment and left at the end of the season which saw John Beck's side relegated to the Third Division.
Davidson moved into non-league football and joined Telford, Dagenham & Redbridge, Ilkeston Town , Nuneaton Borough and Shepshed Dynamo before hanging up his boots.
Davidson then returned to his first club, Derby County in his current role as kit manager.
