Player Profile David Reeves
David Edward Reeves was born in Birkenhead on 19 November 1967 and during his career he has played for nine different league clubs.
Reeves joined Sheffield Wednesday in August 1986 but made his league debut for Fourth Division Scunthorpe on 19 December 1986 in a 3-1 win for the Irons against Exeter with Reeves scoring twice. Reeves made a further three appearances before returning to the Owls.
The 1987/88 season saw Reeves return to Scunthorpe in October 1987, scoring 4 goals in 6 appearances, including an hat-trick in a 3-2 win at Hereford. The following month Reeves joined Fourth Division Burnley on loan and made his debut at Bolton in a 2-1 victory on 21 November 1987. Reeves scored 8 goals in 16 league appearances and made his last appearance in a 3-0 home win against Exeter on 5 March 1988.
The 1988/89 season saw Reeves make his Wednesday debut in a 2-1 win against Arsenal on 24 August 1988. Reeves made 17 appearances for the Owls in the season, scoring twice.
In August 1989, Reeves joined Bolton for £80,000 but only stayed for 3 ½ years making 134 appearances and scoring 29 goals. His only hat-trick for Bolton was in the Autoglass Trophy in a 4-1 win against Rochdale . Following the signing of Scottish International Andy Walker in January 1992 saw his appearances limited.
In March 1993 Reeves joined Notts County for a fee of £100,000 but only stayed for seven months, scoring 2 goals in 13 appearances.
Reeves joined Carlisle for a fee of £121,000 in October 1993, a transfer record which was only broken by Joel Garner's signing from Blackburn in August 2007. Reeves was the leading scorer for Carlisle in 1993/94 as they won 10 of their final 14 league games to secure the final play off place in Division Three, though their promotion dream was ended by Wycombe in the semi-finals.
The 1994/95 season saw Reeves score 33 goals, (25 in the league), as Carlisle won the Third Division title and reached the Autoglass Trophy final, but missed out after conceding an injury time extra time goal to Birmingham.
For the third season on the trot Reeves was the top scorer for Carlisle in 1995/96 as they suffered relegation back to Division Three.
After 3 years and scoring 48 league goals in 127 appearances for Carlisle, Reeves joined Preston for £300,000 in October 1996 to replace the previous seasons leading scorer Andy Saville. Reeves scored on his debut in a 2-1 home victory over Shrewsbury on 19 October and scored an hat-trick the following month in a 5-1 FA Cup win over non-league Altrincham. Reeves was the leading scorer for PNE in 1996/97 with 11 goals in 34 appearances. After scoring 4 goals in his first seven appearances in all competitions he didn't score in his next 9 league games. His last appearance for the Lilywhites was in a 1-0 home defeat to Wrexham on 19 October 1997. He had scored 12 league goals in 47 appearances when he transferred to Chesterfield for £100,000 plus Tony Lormor moving to Deepdale in November 1997.
Reeves scored in 1-0 home victories in his first two games against Grimsby on 8 November and Norwich in the FA Cup a week later. The following season Reeves scored a brace in a 2-1 home victory against Millwall in March 1999 and all 4 goals in a 4-2 victory against Cambridge on 21 August 1999. The 1999/200 season saw Reeves top scorer for Chesterfield with 18 goals in all competitions as Chesterfield finished bottom of Division Two.
The 2000/01 season saw Chesterfield promoted but at a cost as Chesterfield went into administration after Chairman Brown sudden departure and the club was run by a supporters' trust.
Costs had to be made and Reeves was transferred to Oldham initially on loan in December 1991 before moving on a free transfer. His last appearance for Chesterfield was in a 2-0 defeat at Southend in the FA Cup and had scored 46 goals in 168 league appearances.
Reeves scored on his debut for Oldham in a 2-0 home win against Port Vale on 21 December and both goals at Blackpool on Boxing Day. After that the goals dried up and made his last appearance for Oldham on 5 March 1992, he had scored 3 goals in 13 appearances.
At the beginning of the 1993/94 season Reeves returned to Chesterfield initially on loan before transferring on a free transfer in December 1992. On 27 March 2004 Reeves scored a hat-trick as Chesterfield drew 4-4 with Grimsby but was released at the end of the 2004/05 season making a further 71 appearances and scoring 12 goals.
Reeves joined non-league Scarborough and scored an hat-trick in a 4-0 win against Farnborough in August 2005.
Having left the position of assistant manager to an ex-Chesterfield player Marcus Ebdon at Alferton Town at the end of the 2006/07 season, Reeves joined Sutton Town for the 2007/08 season.
