Player Profile – Ian Davidson
Ian Davidson was born in East Lothian on 8 September 1937. He played in the wing-half position and stated his career with Kilmarnock helping them to finish runners-up twice in the Scottish First Division.
Davidson joined Preston and made his debut on 1 December 1962 in a 1-1 draw at Swansea and during the 1961/62 league season he made 16 appearances. The 1963/64 season he made the most league appearances in a season with 37 and scored his only league goal in a 4-0 win at Cardiff on Boxing Day.
Davidson’s final appearance for the Lilywhites was a 2-1 FA Cup Fourth Round defeat at home to Bolton on 30 January 1965.
Davidson joined Middlesbrough and made his Boro debut in a 3-2 defeat at Bury on 23 February 1965. The Second Division side finished in seventeenth position with Davidson making 11 appearances.
The following season Boro were relegated from Division Two with Davidson making 27 league appearances.
His last match was a 2-0 defeat at Watford on 8 October 1966 and had appeared in 46 League matches.
He joined Division Four side Darlington in September 1967 and on his debut Darington won 2-1 at Lincoln. During the 1967/68 season Davidson made 27 appearances for the Quakers.
