PLAYER PROFILE – BRIAN CHIPPENDALE

Brian Albert Chippendale was born in Bradford on 29 October 1964. The winger started his career with Bradford City but never made a first team appearance for the club.

In October 1983 Chippendale joined Fourth Division York and made 4 substitute appearances and was on the winning side on each occasion as York went on to win the title. His debut was in a 3-2 win at Hartlepool on 26 November 1983, whilst his final match of the season was his only one at home as York beat Bury 3-0 on 7 May 1984.

The 1984/85 season saw Chippendale score his only goal in his professional career as York lost in a 4-1 League Cup defeat at Q.P.R on 9 October.

In November 1984 Chippendale joined Fourth Division Halifax on loan. He made 2 appearances for the club which were both on the losing side. Chippendale returned to York to make 3 further appearances, his last one was a 1-1 draw at Newport on 20 March 1985.

In August 1985 Chippendale joined Fourth Division Burnley as a non-contract player for a period of just over a month. His Clarets debut was as a substitute in a 2-1 defeat at home to Port Vale. His second appearance saw him start in the first eleven with a 2-0 win at Turf Moor against Hartlepool on 7 September. His was one of two victories for Burnley in his 8 league appearances for Burnley. The other coming two weeks later in a 1-0 win at home to Rochdale. His final match saw a 4-0 defeat at Chester on 5 October 1985.

Chippendale joined local rivals Preston also on a non-contract basis and for the second time in a week played the same opposition and ended with another heavy defeat. This time Chester won 6-3 at Deepdale on 12 October. A week later saw the only time he didn’t finish on the losing side as PNE drew 1-1 at Rochdale. His sixth and last match for the Lilywhites was a 2-0 defeat at Orient on 9 November.
