Player Profile – Paul Fitzpatrick
Paul James Fitzpatrick was born in Oxford on 5 October 1965. He was a former Tranmere junior player who joined Bolton in March 1985 and made 14 appearances for the Trotters.
Fitzpatrick joined Bristol City in August 1986 and in 26 months he made 44 league appearances and scored 7 goals before joining Fourth Division Carlisle for £40,000 in October 1988.
Two months later he joined Preston on loan and made two league appearances. His debut was in a 3-3 draw at home to Cardiff on 3 December with his last a fortnight later in a 2-1 defeat at Fulham.
On returned to Carlisle he got into the side and helped the club from 23rd position to mid table in 1989 and was Player of the season in 1989/90 as the club narrowly failed to reach the Play-Offs.
After 4 goals in 109 appearances for Carlisle, Fitzpatrick moved up two divisions to join Leicester for a fee of £40,000 to become Brian Little’s first signing.
He netted 4 gaols in 27 appearances before joining Birmingham on a free transfer in January 1993 and made 7 league appearances. In March 1993 he joined Bury on loan and made 9 appearances.
For the start of the 1993/94 season he moved to Scotland with Hamilton and made 18 appearances, scoring once. In February 1984 Fitzpatrick joined Northampton, scoring once in 2 league appearances.
He then moved into non-league with Leicester United, Forest Green Rovers and Corby Town. Then he had a spell as assistant to Gary Birtles at Gresley Rovers before joining Workington in 1999.
