Player Profile – Mark Walsh

Mark Walsh was born in Preston on 7 October 1962. He came though the apprentice system at Preston with the midfielder signing professional forms in October 1980.

He scored on his debut on the opening day of the 1981/82 season in a 2-1 defeat at Millwall on 29 August. But found that he was on the bench for the next three matches, he found appearances limited making just 10 during the season.

He became more of a first team regular in 1982/83, making 27 league appearances during the season. He also scored his second league goal for the Lilywhites with the winner in  a 3-2 victory at Southend on 3 December 1982.

His last season with the club was in the 1983/84 season when he made 25 appearances and scored his third goal for PNE in a 2-2 draw against Sheffield United on 31 January 1984.

His last appearance came in a 3-0 defeat at Hull on 10 April when he was replaced by Paul Lodge.

He left Preston at the end of the season and after a stint in New Zealand Walsh returned to England in August 1985 with one substitute appearance for Exeter as a non-contract player.
