Player Profile – Agnes Morrison
Agnes Cameron Morrison was born in Dingwell, Scotland on 26 April 1924. He started his career with Derby and made his league debut in a 3-2 defeat at Sunderland on 31 August 1946. He scored his first league goals with a brace in a 3-1 victory over Chelsea on 30 November. Morrison then scored two goals in his next two matches against Charlton and Grimsby.
The following season he scored 9 goals, one more than the previous season. He scored a brace twice in matches against Grimsby and Middlesbrough. The 1947/48 season saw Morrison score his only league hat-trick in a 7-4 defeat at Deepdale against Preston. For the Rams he had scored 21 goals from 52 matches
It was Preston who Morrison joined for the 1948/49 season, scoring 8 goals from 19 appearances. His PNE debut was a 1-1 draw against Wolves on 27 November 1948. His first Lilywhite goals were a brace in a 5-3 defeat at Bolton in his second match for the club on 4 December. Morrison then scored a brace on two further occasions in December against Liverpool and Charlton.
The 1949/50 season Morrison netted 9 goals from 23 with a brace against Grimsby and Hull. For the next three seasons the winger was an ever present in the Preston side. He won a Division Two Championship medal in 1950/51, helping himself to 8 goals.
Morrison reached double figures for the first time in 1951/52 with 12 goals; this included a brace in a 2-0 home win over Arsenal on 6 October 1951 and a goal in each of his last four matches of the campaign.
His most successful goalscoring season was in 1952/53 with 13 goals as PNE finished runners up to Division One Champions on goal difference.
Morrison won an FA Cup Runners up medal as Preston lost 3-2 to West Brom in the final on 1 May 1954, Morrison scoring one of the two Lilywhite goals.
His last match was on 13 April 1957 with a 2-0 win at Manchester City, when he only made 6 appearances during the season. In total Morrison scored 69 league goals in 261 appearances.
Morrison joined Division Three South side Millwall for In October 1957. He scored on debut as Millwall beat Q.P.R. 5-0 on 30 October. He scored all of his 4 goals for the club in his first 8 matches. On 23 November he scored his last goal for the club as they won 4-1 at Coventry. His 15th and final match was a 4-1 defeat at home to Colchester 8 March 1958. Millwall finished 23rd in the final season of Division Three North and South.
Agnes Morrison died in 2002.
