Player Profile – Nathan Doyle

Nathan Luke Robert Doyle was born in Derby on 12 January 1987.He has played for the England U16 side, England U17 side and England U20 side. He can play at right-back, central midfield, or the right

Doyle started his career playing for Noel Baker School, Derby. He made his first appearance for Derby on 1 November 2003, aged 16, in a league game at Deepdale against Preston, which Derby lost 3–0. His only other match for the 2003/04 season was the return fixture with Derby beating PNE 5-1 on 17 April 2004.

Doyle made a further 9 appearances for Derby, the last was a 0-0 home draw against Leeds on 11 February 2006. On 24 February 2006, Doyle went on loan to Notts County and his first game for the Magpies on the following day was a 2-1 defeat at Lincoln. He made his home debut in his next match was a 2-2 home draw against Mansfield 4 March. His third appearance saw his only victory for Notts County with a 2-1 win at Bristol Rovers a week later and received his first yellow card. Doyle made 12 appearances in total; his final match for the Magpies was a 2-2 draw at home to Bury on 6 May 2006.

 He returned to Derby in May 2006 but had a  loan spell with Bradford City, which started on 3 August and ended on 27 January 2007 with 28 league appearances. He was transferred to Hull City on 31 January 2007, for £100,000. He made his Hull debut in a 2–1 defeat to Plymouth on the final day of the 2006/07 season. His first senior goal came in Hull's 4–1 victory over Watford in the second leg of the Football League Championship play-offs on 14 May 2008. The 90th minute goal gave Hull a 4-3 aggregate win over Watford the same day he became a father.

Hull was promoted to the Premier League, but Doyle did not feature in the top division until 26 December, when he came on as a substitute during a 5–1 defeat to Manchester City. He made two further appearances in the Premier League but both ended in home defeats against Arsenal and Blackburn.

Doyle went on loan to Championship side Barnsley on 18 September 2009. He made his debut the following day, coming on for Jacob Butterfield at a 0–0 draw with Swansea City. In January 2010 after 11 loan appearances, Doyle signed permanently for Barnsley on a free transfer after being told he could leave Hull after 5 league appearances.

Doyle score his first League goal with a 3-1 home win over Nottingham Forest on 16 October, with his second coming in a 2-1 home victory over Coventry on 3 January. Doyle made 43 league appearances for the Tykes in the 2010/11 campaign.

On 24 November 2011 Doyle joined Preston on loan, his debut for the Lilywhites was a 1-0 defeat at Bury on 36 November. Three days later saw Doyle get his first victory in a PNE shirt with a 1-0 win at Hartlepool. His home debut came on in a 1-1 draw against Chesterfield in the JPT which Preston lost on penalties. His final game for Preston came in a 3-3 draw against Carlisle on Boxing Day. After returning to Barnsley he received his first red card in the 2011/12 season with the 1-0 win over Peterborough on 24 March 2012. He was released by Barnsley after the 2011/12 season after a total of 98 league appearances.

On 4 August 2012 he returned to Bradford City and signed a 1 year deal. He made his debut on 11 August in a 1–0 win against former club Notts County in the League Cup. He made his league debut on 21 August in a 1–0 win against Fleetwood Town.] On 30 October, Doyle helped Bradford into the quarter-finals of the League Cup by scoring his penalty in the shoot-out against Wigan after the game had finished 0–0 after extra-time. He scored his first goals for the club on 12 February 2013, scoring twice in a 3–0 win away to Wycombe Wanderers. He started in the 2013 Football League Cup Final which lost 5-0 to Swansea on 24 February 2013 at Wembley. On 3 July, he signed a new one-year contract at the club. On 9 June 2014 after 76 league appearances Doyle left Bradford City.
