Player Profile - Dean Barrick
Dean Barrick was born in Hemsworth on 30 September 1969. The left-back started his career with Sheffield Wednesday
He made his Owls debut in Division One in a 3-1 victory at Newcastle on 27 March 1989, scoring in the 4th minute. His only other goal for the club came on his 4th appearance and his next away match in a 5-1 defeat at Liverpool. He made 11 league appearances with his last match being a 4-2 home defeat to Tottenham on 31 March 1990.
Barrick joined Third Division Rotherham and made his Millers debut in a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth on 23 February 1981. His first goal for the club came in his 17th match in a 3-1 defeat at Crewe on 30 April and made 19 league appearances as Rotherham were relegated to Division Four.
The 1991/92 campaign saw Barrick make 34 league appearances as Rotherham were promoted to Division Two as runners-up. His only goal for the season came in a 2-1 home win over Northampton on 14 March 1992.
Barrick was an ever present and had his best season in front of goal came in 1992/93, netting 5 goals in all competitions including a brace in a 3-3 draw against Chester on 3 November. His 99th and last appearance came in a 3-1 win at Mansfield on 8 May.
Barrick joined Cambridge and made debut in a 3-2 win at home to Blackpool on 14 August. The 1993/94 and 1994/95 seasons saw Barrick make 44 league appearances in both seasons. His last game for Cambridge saw him score in a 3-3 draw at Preston on 2 September.
A few days later he was Deepdale bound after netting 3 goals in 91 league appearances for Cambridge. His PNE debut came in a 2-2 draw at Colchester o 12 September 1995 as a sub for Mike Brown. Barrick made 40 appearances as the Lilywhites won the Third Division title. He made 36 appearances in 1996/97 and scored his only league goal for the club the following season in a 3-2 defeat at Chesterfield on 23 August 1998. He did score one final goal in a League Cup Second Round, Second Leg , with the only goal in the victory over Premier League Blackburn on 17 September 1997, unfortunately the first leg saw Rovers win 6-0 at Ewood Park. Barrick’s 100th league appearances for Preston came in a 1-1 home draw to Wycombe on 21 February. His 109th and final PNE match was a 2-1 win against Bristol City on 2 May 1998.
Barrick joined Division One side Bury and made his debut in a 1-0 win against Huddersfield on 8 August. His only goal for the Shakers came on his 5th league appearance in a 3-0 win at Gigg Lane against Swindon on 31 August. After a loan spell with Aye, Barrick returned to Bury. His final league game was a 4-1 defeat at Bristol City on 2 December 2001 after 47 league appearances.
For the next few seasons he played in the non-league with Doncaster 2001-03 (51 appearances; 1 goal), a loan spell with Hereford in 2002 (7 appearances), Nuneaton in 2003 (11 appearances) and Huchnall Town 2003-05(79 appearances; 2 goals).
As a manager he took Hucknall Town to the 2005 FA Trophy final. He was the head of physical education at The British School in Warsaw, Poland. He lived in Poland for a year, 2008/09 then left the country for Thailand.
Barrick was also a physical education teacher at Hatfield Visual Arts College in Hatfield, Doncaster.
Dean Barrick is now the manager of the Regents' Lions Senior Football Team in Thailand.
