Player Profile – Dean Barrick
Dean Barrick was born in Hemsworth on 30 September 1969. He came through the Youth Training Scheme at Sheffield Wednesday and signed professionally in August 1988. He made his debut in the 1988/89 season and scored twice in 11 appearances.
In February 1991 Barrick moved to Rotherham for a fee of £50,000 and scored 7 goals in 99 appearances.
His Millers debut was a 1-1 home draw to Bournemouth on 23 February. His first victory with Rotherham came on his eighth appearance a month later in a 3-1 home win over Fulham. His first Rotherham goal came in a 3-1 defeat at Crewe on 11 May. Barrick made 19 appearances during the season as the Millers finished second bottom and relegated to Division Four.
The following season in the 1991/92 campaign saw Rotherham game promotion to the new League Two with runners-up in Division Four with one goal in 34 appearances. The goal came in a 2-1 win at Northampton on 14 March
The 1992/93 season Barrick played in every league game and started in all but one of them. He had his most successful season in front of goal in his career with four league goals and one Football League Trophy. This included a brace in a 33 home draw against Chester on 3 November. His 99th and last league appearance came in a 3-1 win at Mansfield on 8 May 1993.
In August 1993 Barrick joined Cambridge for £50,000 and made 91 league appearances, netting 3 goals.
Two years later Barrick joined Preston as a straight swap for Paul Raynor and made his debut in a 2-2 draw at Colchester on 12 September when he replaced Michael Brown. Four days later he started in the first team in the number three shirt and kept in for the remainder of the season. He made 40 appearances as PNE won the Third Division title.
Injuries limited him to 36 appearances in 1996/97, the introduction of a wing back system saw Barrick just make 33 appearances in 1997/98. He scored his only league goal for the club in a 3-2 defeat at Chesterfield on 23 August, a month later scored in the 1-0 victory over Blackburn in the second leg of the league cup but had lost 6-1 on aggerate.
His last appearance was a 2-1 win at home to Bristol City on the final day of the 1997/98 season.
He was released at the end of the season and joined Bury. He made his debut in a 1-0 home win over Huddersfield on 8 August 1998 and scored his only goal 3 weeks later as Bury beat Swindon 3-0.
After 20 appearances he was dropped and joined Ayr on loan in February 1999. On 28 March 2000 in a 1-0 victory at Chesterfield he fractured his eye socket in two places and broke his nose. He had made a total of 37 appearances for Bury.
In March 2001 Barrick joined Conference side Doncaster on loan and scored on his debut. Barrick joined Nuneaton in February 2003 before moving to Hucknall Town.
As a manager he took Hucknall Town to the 2005 FA Trophy final. Later he became the head of PE at The British School in Warsaw, Poland and now teaches in Thailand.
