Player Profile – Dean Barrick
Dean Barrick was born in Hemsworth on 30 September 1969. He started with the juniors with Sheffield Wednesday before signing professional forms in May 1988.
Barrick made his league debut, scoring in a 3-1 win at Newcastle on 27 March 1989. He went on to score a total of two goals in 8 appearances in the 1988/89 season and made a further 3 appearances in 1989/90.
After not making a league appearance in 1990/91 for the Owls, Barrick joined Rotherham for £50,000 in February 1991.
He scored 7 goals in 99 appearances before joining Cambridge in August 1993. For Cambridge Barrick made 91 league appearances with 3 goals before joining Preston two years later.
Barrick made his Lilywhite debut as a substitute for Andy Fensome in a 2-2 draw at Colchester on 12 September. His full debut came four days later in a 2-2 draw against Scunthorpe. He then kept the number three shirt for the remainder of the season to make 40 appearances as PNE won the Third division title.
The following season he made 36 appearances as he lost his place in the team due to a back injury. He scored his only league goal for the club with a long range shot in a 3-2 defeat at Chesterfield on 23 August 1997. He also scored in a 1-0 win at home to Blackburn in the second leg of a League Cup second round tie on 30 September.
With a change in formation to wing back he played his final game for the club in a 2-1 win at home to Bristol City on 2 May 1998, he had made 109 league appearances for Preston.
After being released by Preston Barrick joined Bury in July 1998 and was an automatic choice for the first three months.
After being publicly named for being responsible for the 1-0 defeat against Wolves and joined Ayr on loan where he made 11 appearances.
On return to Bury he returned to the side but suffered a nasty injury against Chesterfield fracturing his eye socket in two places and breaking his nose.
He found it difficult to get back into the side and after one goal in 47 appearances Barrick joined Doncaster on loan in 2001. He later joined the club permanently and made a total of 62 appearances with two goals.
In 2002 he joined Hereford on loan and made 7 appearances before joining Nuneaton Borough in 2003. For Nuneaton he made 11 appearances when he joined Hucknell Town. He made 79 appearances for the club, scoring twice before later becoming their manager. As a manager he took the club to the 2005 FA Trophy Final.
After football he became a PE teacher at Hatfield Visual Arts College near Doncaster and is now head of PE at The British School in Warsaw, Poland.
