Player profile - Craig Allardyce

Craig Samuel Allardyce was born in Bolton on 9 June 1975 and is the son of former PNE player and Caretaker Manager Sam Allardyce.

His only PNE appearance was as a substitute for Simon Burton in a 2-2 draw at Port Vale on 6 April 1993.

Unable to break into the team Allardyce drifted into non league football with Macclesfield and Northwich Victoria.

In September 1994 Allardyce joined Blackpool but in three seasons he just made one substitute appearance for the Seasiders.

Following a spell with Chorley in March 1998 saw Allardyce join Chesterfield on a non-contract basis for the remainder of the season. He made on substitute appearance in a 1-1 draw at Wycombe.

On 25 September 1998, Allardyce joined Peterborough on a one month trial making his debut the following day in a 2-1 victory at Hartlepool and made three further appearances for the Posh, all at home. After the 2-0 win against Rochdale and a 1-0 defeat against Carlisle his last appearance was a 4-2 defeat against Rotherham on 31 October 1998.

After leaving Welling, Allardyce joined Mansfield on Christmas Eve 1998 were he made 6 appearances in the 1998/99 season and 4 appearances in 1999/2000, the last was a 3-0 defeat at Lincoln on 7 March 2000 which was his seventeenth and last league game of his career.

At the end of March 2000 Allardyce joined non-league Boston for the remainder of the season.

He retired at the age of 25 to become a football agent and became famous after being implicated in a BBC Panorama documentary on 19 September 2006 on the subject of taking 'bungs' from agents to sign certain players.

In December 2007 he became joint manager for West Lancashire Football League club Turton.
