Ron Healey profile
Ronald Healey was born in Manchester on 30 August 1952. Following an apprenticeship with Manchester City, Healey signed professional forms for the club in October 1969.
His opportunities in the first team was limited as he was the understudy to the English international goalkeeper Joe Corrigan, only making 30 appearances for City between 1969 to 1973.
During his time with Manchester City Healey went on loan to three clubs, initially with Altrincham before going to Coventry in December 1971, making 3 appearances.
Two years later he joined Preston making an eventful debut away at Middlesbrough on December 11th 1973. Due to a facial injury he had to leave the field for 15 minutes with David Sadler taking over his position in the nets, Middlesbrough winning the match 3-0. Healey made a further 5 appearances for Preston, his last away at Swindon in a 3-1 defeat on New Years Day 1974.
Healey signed for Cardiff in March 1974 becoming a cult hero andmaking 216 appearances for the Bluebirds before injuries led to his retirement at the end of the 1981/82 season.
It was during May 1982 that the former Welsh international Andy Dibble got an unexpected 17th birthday present when he was told an hour before kick off that he was making his league debut for Cardiff after Healey dropped out of the side due to illness.
Healey help Cardiff win promotion to the second division in the1975/76 season finishing runners up and 6 points behind champions Hereford. Whilst at Cardiff Healey represented the Republic of Ireland twice
Together with his son, Scott, they run a coaching school in Manchester where they successfully coach over 100 goalkeepers every week. With many of their players progressing into the professional ranks.
