Player Profile – Henry Croft
Henry Croft was born in Bolton in 1900 and played in the inside-left and outside-left positions.
Croft started his short footballing career after the First World War with First Division Preston. He made his one and only appearance for the 1920/21 season in a 5-1 defeat at Manchester City on 20 April 1920. He wore the number eleven shirt which had been worn for the majority of the season with Peter Quinn.
His second and last appearance came in the 1921/22 season for the Lilywhites which also resulted in another heavy defeat. This time it was a 3-0 victory at Deepdale by West Brom, as he replaced Rowland Woodhouse in the number ten shirt for the match.
Unable to beak into the first team at Preston, Croft joined Portsmouth who played in Division Three South. Croft only made 5 appearances in 1922/23 for Pompey as they finished in seventh position.
After his stay on the South Coast, Croft returned to the North West to play for non-league side Atherton Collieries.
