Player Profile Willie McIntosh

William Dowling McIntosh was born 7 December 1919 in Glasgow. The Centre Forward started his career with Preston and made his debut on the restart of the Football League after the War. His first match scoring in a 3-2 win at home to Leeds on 31 August 1946. McIntosh scored a hat-trick in consecutive matches in September with a 3-2 win at Grimsby on 7 September and a 5-1 home victory over Charlton a week later. He scored a brace on 5 occasions as McIntosh netted 27 goals in 40 appearances during the 1946/47 season.

The 1947/48 season McIntosh scored 5 goals in his first 5 matches of the season with PNE winning 4 of them. In total he scored 14 goals from 34 matches.

His last season for Preston in 1948/49 and scored a brace in a 5-2 win at Newcastle on 28 August, his last match for the Lilywhites was a 3-1 defeat at Portsmouth on 18 December 1948. In total McIntosh has scored 46 league goals in 91 matches.

McIntosh joined Blackpool and made his debut in a 3-3 home draw against Sunderland on 15 January 1949. He scored 5 goals in 14 appearances for Blackpool during 1948/49. During February e scored 4 goals in 3 matches including a brace in a 2-2 draw at home to former club Preston on 26 February.

The following season McIntosh scored 7 goals in 29 appearances was just limited to 6 appearances in 1950/51 season. His last match was Blackpool was a 3-0 home defeat to Preston 0n 10 September 1951. He had scored 12 goals in 50 appearances.

McIntosh joined Stoke and his debut was a 6-1 home defeat to Tottenham on 15 September. He scored 5 goals from 24 appearances including a brace in a 4-2 defeat at former club Blackpool on 24 November. His last match for Stoke was also against Preston and ended in a 3-0 defeat at Preston on 10 September 1953.

McIntosh joined Division Three South side Walsall and made his debut in a 4-1 defeat at Leyton Orient on 8 November. His first goals for the Saddlers came on his eighth appearances in all competitions with a 4-4 home draw against Shrewsbury on 15 January 1954 and then went on to score 4 goals in his next 5 matches. It was during this period McIntosh registered his first win for Walsall after 12 appearances with a 3-2 win at home to Norwich on 7 February. His final goal for the club came on his last home appearance with a 3-0 victory on 6 April. Five days later was his last match with a 0-0 draw at Reading.  McIntosh had scored 9 league goals from 22 matches.
