Player Profile – Adam Nowland
Adam Christopher Nowland was born in Preston on 6 July 1981.Nowland started his career with Blackpool and made his professional debut at the age of 16 when he replaced former PNE striker Mick Conroy with six minutes to go in a 1-1 draw at Chesterfield on 2 April 1988.
His first goal came the following season on 19 September 1998 when he replaced another former PNE striker with six minutes to go and scored the only goal three minutes later. His other goal that season came against his home town club with Blackpool winning 2-1 at Deepdale on 17 April 1999. He made 37 appearances during the season although 24 of theses was from the substitutes bench.
The 1999/2000 season saw Blackpool relegated from Division Two with Nowland scoring 3 goals from 21 matches but only started 5 of these. The following season Blackpool was promoted from the Third Divison via the play-offs. Nowland made 10 substitute appearances and made his last appearance for the club in a 6-0 home win over Scunthorpe on 3 February 2001, he had made 69 appearances, scoring 5 goals for the Seasiders after being released by Steve McMahon.
He signed for First Division Wimbledon on 5 June 2001 and made his debut in a 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest on 9 March 2002. His first goal game in a 3-2 defeat at Watford on 17 August 2002 and made 24 appearances. Nowland scored 3 goals in 25 appearances in Wimbledon’s relegation season of 2002/03. He scored on his last appearances in a 1-0 win at Stoke in the FA Cup on 13 January 2004, Nowland had netted 5 goals from 56 appearances.
Nowland signed for West Ham on 23 January 2004 and his debut eight days later in a 2-1 win at Upton Park against Rotherham. He made 11 appearances for the club that season. After playing five games at the start of the 2004/05 season which included his first goal in a 1-0 win against Burnley, Nowland was loaned out for one month to Gillingham on 30 September 2004, where he played three games, scoring one goal in a 2-1 defeat at Millwall.. On his return to West Ham he played in their 1-0 Leagur Cup defeat to Chelsea on 27 October which was his last appearance for the Hammers after 15 appearances.
On 5 November 2004 Nottingham Forest signed Nowland for £250,000. He made his debut the following day in a 2-1 defeat to Wolves at Molineux. However, he was to make only 5 appearances that season and his last appearance was a 1-1 home draw against Leicester on 17 December.
Nowland joined Preston on a free transfer on 27 August 2005. His debut came on 16 September in 1-0 home defeat by Stoke. He made a good start for the club, scoring 3 goals in 9 starts, the first in a 2-0 win at Crewe on 3 December. He scored in the 3-0 victory at Norwich on 2 January 2006 but then suffered a broken leg after a bad challenge by Dickson Etuhu who was still on PNE’s books having joined Norwich on loan. He was out of action for the rest of the 2005/06 season and missed most of the 2006/07 before returning to action on 17 March 2007 in a 2-0 home win over Burnley. It was to be his only appearance that season.
On 20 September 2007 he once again joined Gillingham on a month's loan, his debut was against former club Forest but ended in a 4-0 defeat, he made 6 appearances before returning to Preston on 20 October.
On 9 November he was loaned out again, this time to Stockport until 1 January 2008, making 4 appearances. In January 2008 he was released by Preston by manager Alan Irvine after scoring 3 goals from 14 apperaances.
Nowland was without a club until he signed for Notts County on 26 June 2008. He made his debut on 22 September in a 4-0 victory over former loan club Gillingham. After making 21 appearances in the 2007/08 season, Nowland was released by Notts County on 30 April 2009.
On 10 August 2009 Nowland signed for Blackpool on a non-contract basis. He scored his first goal in his second spell with the Seasiders in what was his only game, a 2-1 win over Crewe in the first round of the League Cup on 11 August 2009. Two days later he was released and in September 2009 joined non-league AFC Fylde.
