Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu (GNN) was born in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo on 26 December 1982.
GNN started his career with French side Amines SC, staying for 2 years. He joined Sheffield Wednesday, initially on loan, in September 2003 and made his league debut in a 2-2 draw at home to Stockport on 13 September. His first goal came in an FA Cup tie at Scunthorpe in a 1-1 draw on 6 December and his first league goal came a week later in a 1-1 draw at Barnsley.
GNN scored a brace twice during the season in 2-1 wins at Rushden on 21 December and against Barnsley on 13 March 2004. He scored 9 league goals in 24 appearances making him the top scorer for the club and winning the Owls player of the season award for 2003/04. It was reported in the press at the time that Alan Pardew was ready for a bid of £1m for him from West Ham, but it never materialised.
GNN joined the Owls permanently in July 2004 for a fee of £50,000, but found chances limited under new Owls manager Paul Sturrock. On 27 September 2004 GNN joined Preston on loan and made his debut in a 1-1 home draw against Plymouth. In his 6 appearances for PNE saw him only on the winning side once, this was in his fourth appearances as they beat forest 3-2.
GNN's final appearance was has a substitute for Andy Smith as PNE drew 1-1 at Coventry on 3 November. Later that month Preston signed Patrick Agyemang.
On return to Wednesday GNN made a further 4 appearances for the club. His last appearance was in a 4-0 win at Doncaster on 19 December. GNN had made 45 appearances, scoring 10 goals for the Owls.
On 21 January 2005 GNN joined Colchester on a free transfer and made his debut the following day, in a 0-0 draw at home to Luton as he replaced Joe Keith for the last 12 minutes.
GNN only made 8 appearances for the club with only two of these in the starting eleven. The first of these was at Tranmere on 12 February and scored his only league goal for Colchester as a sub three day later in a 3-1 home victory against Bournemouth. His last appearance was a 1-0 defeat at home to Brentford on 5 March.
On 5 August 2005 GNN joined Gillingham on a free transfer, making his debut the following day in a 1-1 draw at Rushden. His first goal came in his third appearance as Darlington won 1-0 at Grimsby, he then scored in his next two matches. GNN scored a brace in his final appearance for the club scoring a 90 minute winner from the penalty spot as Darlington beat Torquay 3-2. He had scored 10 goals from 21 appearances.
In January 2006 GNN joined Cardiff, where he made 11 appearances including 7 as a substitute. His debut for the Bluebirds was in a 3-0 win at home to Burnley on 14 January and his last appearance in a 3-1 win at Coventry on 30 April.
Following his release at the end of the 2005/06 season, GNN joined Gillingham and made his debut in a 2-1 victory at home to Huddersfield on 5 August. His sixth appearance saw his first goal for the Gills in a 1-1 draw at Blackpool but struggled to hold a first team spot. GNN scored a brace in a 4-1 FA Cup victory at home to Bromley. He has scored 3 goals in 32 appearances for the Gills.
For the start of the 2007/08 GNN joined Bradford, scoring on his debut in a 1-1 draw at home to Macclesfield on 11 August and scored a brace in a 4-2 defeat at Hereford on 22 September. GNN was also shown a red card in the 1-0 FA Cup victory against Chester on 10 November. After 6 goals in 18 appearances for Bradford, GNN transferred to Darlington for the second time on 30 January 2008.
