Player Profile – Brian Greenhalgh
Brian Arthur Greenhalgh was born in Chesterfield on 20 January 1947. Having impressed in the reserves Greenhalgh made his PNE debut in a 1-1 draw at home to Bristol City on 18 December 1965.
His fourth league appearance saw him score a hat-trick in a 3-1 win at Bolton on 16 March 1966. The final game of the season saw Greenhalgh score a brace in the 9-0 win at home to Cardiff to take his tally to 5 goals from just 7 league appearances for the 1965/66 season.
The following season Greenhalgh scored twice in 8 appearances but had to wait until February 1967 to get into the first team.
His last appearance for the Lilywhites was in a 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa on 9 September 1967 after 9 goals from 19 appearances. It was Aston Villa who he and Brian Godfrey joined for a joint fee of £35,000.
Greenhalgh scored 12 goals in 29 appearances in the 1967/68 season as Villa finish in 16th position, four places above PNE. After 40 appearances Greenhalgh joined Leicester for £15,000 in February 1969.
His stay was short as he just made 4 appearances in 4 months when the striker was signed by Ian Greaves at Huddersfield for £15,000. This was also on the same day as Allan Clarke joined Leeds from Leicester for £150,000 in June 1969.Huddersfield won the Second Division title by seven points with Greenhalgh making 5 appearances in the 1969/70 season.
Greenhalgh made a further 10 appearances to take his tally to 15 league matches as Huddersfield finished the First Division season in 15th position in 1970/71.
In July 1971 Greenhalgh joined Fourth Division Cambridge and found his scoring boots by netting 47 goals in 116 appearances. He helped the club to promotion in 1972/73.
Although Cambridgeended up being relegated in 1973/74, Greenhalgh had joined Bournemouth in February 1974. He scored 7 goals in 24 appearances and had a spell with Torquay on loan for the start of the 1974/75 season, making 9 appearances with one goal.
His final league club was Watford who he joined in March 1975 and scored once in 18 appearances before leaving in the 1975/76 season.
He moved to the non-league and had spells with Dartford,StainesTown, and Carshalton before joining Wealdstone in 1980.
After hanging up his boots he became chief scout at Everton. He is now the Northern scout at Watford.
