Player Profile – Michael Holt
Michael Holt was born in Barnoldswick on 28 July 1977. He began his career with Blackburn but never played in their league side. In August 1996 Holt joined Preston and made his debut as a substitute for Kevin Kilbane on the opening day of the 1996/97 season in a 2-1 defeat at Notts County on 17 August.
His first goal came in his first match in the starting eleven with a 90th minute equaliser at home to Tottenham on 17 September in the League Cup. Whist his first league goal came eleven days later in a 2-1 victory over Millwall. During the season Hold scored 3 goals from 19 matches.
Holt scored a further two goals in 14 appearances in 1997/98 and made his last appearance in a 4-3 home defeat over Stoke on 22 August 1998 after 36 league appearances.
In August Holt joined Macclesfield on loan and scored once in 4 appearances before joining Rochdale on loan in November 1998 with 3 goals from 6 appearances. Holt then joined Rochdale on a permanent basis and scored 4 goals in 30 appearances, his final league appearance came in a1-1 home draw against Barnet on 6 May 2000.
In 2000/01 Holt had a loan spell with Conference side Northwich Victoria and made 5 appearances but didn’t score or was on the winning side. His debut was a 3-0 defeat at Scarborough on 22 January 2000. A week later there was a worse result at the Vic’s lost 6-0 at Rushden. After two goalless draws Holt made is last appearance in a 3-1 defeat at Stevenage on 19 February 2000
He then moved to Ireland spending three years with St Patrick’s Athletic. In 2003 Holt joined Derry City before returning to St Patrick’s Athletic in 2004. He ended his spell in Ireland with Dublin City in 2005.
Holt then returned to the North West with non-league Nelson in 2005 before joining his home town club Barnoldswick Town in 2006.
