As season tickets went on sale for next season, Preston entered March looking for a pick me up after losing two games in February to Middlesborough and Reading.
The month started slowly and Preston were struggling to hold onto sixth place with consecutive goalless draws against Plymouth and Brighton. In a crucial rearranged game from the beginning of the month because of freak snow storms, the Whites managed to bang three past ten man Ipswich. Nugent bagged two goals and the fans were soon optimistic again. However, joy turned to sorrow the following day as it was understood that in going for his hat trick, top scorer Nugent had broken a metatasal bone in his foot ruling him out for the rest of the season.
Manager Davis refused to bring anyone in on loan before the deadline of the last Thursday in the month. Preston then followed this news up with their worst performance of the season by going down tamely to lowly Sheffield Wednesday.
Further injuries and the closing of the gap by rivals Wolves and Cardiff forced Davis to sign former Premiership striker Marcus Stewart on loan until the end of the season including the play offs if needed. The new signing did the trick as Preston ended the month with another deadlock against Plymouth but more importantly a slende victory over relegation doomed Crewe. The depelted squad then headed into April looking to secure a second successive play off finishing season.
