Preston have only picked up one point from their last ten away games and Sheffield United has not been a happy hunting ground in recent years. This may be Preston's best chance with an underfire Bryan Robson leading a nervy Sheffield United.
Robson has been criticised for United's start to the season as they were meant to be promotion candidates but are languishing in the bottom few. Preston, if not pre-season favourites were not expected to be flirting with the relegation zone.
Simpson has decisions to make up front. Mellor scored another hat trick in midweek in the reserves but only make the bench. Agyemang is pushing for a start with Hawely and Gallagher having started at Ipswich. Carroll also returns after his misdemeanour on England duty.
Mckenna is on the comeback trail but this match will probably be too soon for him. The midfield of Davidson and Nicholls will most likely make up the midfield two supplemented by Sedgewick and Carter out wide. Lewis Neal will also be pushing for a place.
Matty Hill should be back at left back with Jones on the opposite side. Chilvers and Mawene should remain in the centre and Lonergan has now some breathing space in betwene the sticks with Henderson out for three months.
Preston need to turn round some drastic away form to give hope to the travelling band of fans whilst the home side will be looking to kick start their season.
