Plymouth Argyle Vs Preston North End
Coca-Cola Championship Saturday 19th April 2008 3pm Kick Off
After a disappointing defeat and equally disappointing performance against fellow relegation candidates Barnsley, Alan Irvine and his men will be looking to get back winning ways as soon as possible. The aforementioned defeat to Barnsley ended Preston's unbeaten run which had stretched to seven games and has given the Lilywhites a subtle reminder that they are certainly not out of the woods just yet. Plymouth who will still have one eye on a play-off spot, are without a win in their last four games meaning that a win is crucial for their play-off aspirations, albeit farfetched ones.
A win for Preston would surely see them mathematically safe and ensure Championship football is played at what will be a new-look Deepdale next season and as an added bonus, could see them leapfrog Burnley. Plymouth on the other hand could edge closer to the top six however, anything but a win for the pilgrims would end their play-off dream.
Recent Meetings
The corresponding fixture last season resulted in a 2-0 defeat for the Lilywhites. Late goals from Ebanks-Blake and Barry Hayles from the penalty spot added a further dent in Preston's play-off hopes that year. The reverse fixture saw a comprehensive win for Preston, 3-0 was the final score with goals from Danny Pugh, Brett Ormerod and Graham Alexander. There was similar joy this season too at Deepdale as Preston edged out the Pilgrims in a 2-0 win. Goals from Brett Ormerod and Darren Carter proved to be too much for Plymouth.
Team News
With no new fresh injury worries, Striker Chris Brown should come back into the starting eleven as he has trained this week after recovering from the knock that ruled him out of the Barnsley fixture.
