Plymouth Argyle Vs Preston North End
Coca-Cola Championship Tuesday 21st October 2008
Despite all the doom and gloom that has surrounded Deepdale after the four straight defeats recently, things don't seem quite so bad after the impressive 2-1 win over Reading on Saturday. Preston North End climbed up to seventh from twelfth and within just three points away from third place Reading after the win and are right back in it in terms of keeping up with the leagues early pace setters.
It just goes to show how open the Championship is which means that a win on Tuesday night at Home Park could put Preston right into the thick of it. Preston will be buoyed by the aforementioned win over Reading especially after a run of four games without a win. Plymouth however saw their five game unbeaten run came to an end at home to Derby on Saturday despite going 1-0 up through former Preston striker Paul Gallagher.
With that in mind, Plymouth will be looking to get back on track immediately whilst Alan Irvine and Preston will be hoping to thwart Plymouth in doing so whilst consequently making it two wins on the bounce.
Previous Meetings
The corresponding fixture last season was a thrilling encounter and was the game that secured Preston's status in the Championship. The game finished a 2-2 draw after Preston came from being two goals down. Jamie Mackie and Paul Wotton had put the home side two up going into the final 15 minutes of the game before Neil Mellor pulled one back two minutes later. Richard Chaplow popped up at the far post to give North End the equaliser and earn them the point that kept them afloat.
When Plymouth visited Deepdale earlier in the season Preston took all three points after seeing off, what was then, Ian Holloway's side in a 2-0 win. Brett Ormerod and Darren Carter got the goals for North End.
Team News
There are no fresh injury concerns for Preston so the same time that beat Reading on Saturday is widely expected to play at Home Park on Tuesday Night.
Plymouth are blessed with having a relatively full squad to choose from. However despite David McNamee and Gary Sawyer no longer needing treatment, they are both lacking match fitness and are not expected to feature.
In form striker Paul Gallagher is set to play against his former club.
