Morecambe Vs Preston North End Match Preview

Pre-Season Friendly Saturday 21st July 2012

Venue: Globe Arena, Morecambe

Kick-Off: 15:00

Although pre-season is more geared towards building up match fitness rather than results, North End gaffer Graham Westley will still want to return to winning ways following the draw with non-league Chorley on Tuesday night.

Lee Trundle put the visitors ahead against his former club only for the Mapgies to level in the second half to ensure that the Jack Kirkland Trophy would be shared for 12 months.

A sterner test faces North End, however, with League Two outfit Morecambe being next up on North End's perusit of match sharpness.

Thus far, Morecambe are without a win in their previous two pre-season run-outs having lost 4-1 at home to Premier League Everton before drawing with non-league Altrincham.

North End travel to the Globe Arena looking to make it their third victory at the Shrimper's new stadium in as many visits.

Previous Meetings

The Lilywhites last faced Morecambe in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy last term and emerged victorious thanks to a penalty shootout win.

A 2-2 draw was played out over 90 minutes back in October with goals from the now departed Juvhel Tsoumou and Brian McLean putting the visitors in front inside 21 minutes.

However, late goals from Jevons and Ellison snatched a draw to force a penalty shootout.

The Lilywhites won 7-6 on penalties with Morecambe's Alessandra missing the key penalty to send North End through to the next round.

Of course, North End also played Morecambe last summer in a pre-season warm up game.

North End were victorious with a 3-0 win in a game which saw Thorsten Stuckmann play the second half a save a penalty for the Lilywhites.

Team News

With new trialists emerging on a game-by-game basis it would be foolish to second guess who will be pulling on a Preston shirt come Saturday afternoon.

However, David Amoo is considered a doubt as is Chris Robertson who have both failed to recover from their respective knocks.

John Welsh will watch on from the sidelines but 'keeper Thorsten Stuckmann could be in line to feature having made way for four seperate trialist goalkeepers in the first two matches.
