Plymouth Argyle Vs Preston North End Match Preview
Pre-season Friendly Wednesday 8th August 2012
Venue: Home Park, Plymouth
Kick-off: 19:45
North End's final pre-season game sees Graham Westley's men make the 300 mile trip down to Devon to take on the Pilgrims.
Following the defeat to Championship outfit Leeds United at the weekend, North End will be hoping to head into the season with a win under their belts for some much needed momentum.
A record of three wins, two draws and two defeats is what proceeds the Lilywhites from their seven pre-season run outs, another victory would perhaps mean a successful pre-season campaign in the eyes of the Deepdale faithful.
Plymouth, meanwhile, head into Wednesday's fixture with a 5-0 drubbing to the hands of Birmingham City on their record, their second of pre-season having lost by the same margin to Yeovil three weeks previous.
Previous Meetings
North End's last trip to Home Park was during the 2009/2010 season where the two teams shared the spoils following a 1-1 draw.
Sean St Ledger put the visiting Preston side ahead after just 18 minutes only for Damien Johnson to level from the penalty spot with 20 minutes to go.
The Deepdale clash between the Lilywhites and Pilgrims saw the former take all three points, however.
Goals from Richard Chaplow and Ross Wallace gave North End a 2-0 goal lead inside the half an hour and proved to be enough to send the Pilgrims away with nothing for their endeavours.
Team News
Midfielder John Welsh made a cameo appearance in the defeat to Leeds United at the weekend and is likely to play some part at Home Park.
David Amoo, meanwhile, is unlikely to feature as is Andy Procter who both watched on from the Invincibles Pavillion during the aforementioned defeat to Leeds United.
The midfield duo will face late fitness tests.
For the home side, midfielder Johnny Gorman, the on-loan Wolves trainee and striker Rhys Griffiths could make their debuts following their moves to Argyle on Monday.
