The Only Way Is Up

If Preston fans are not unfamiliar with a poor start to the season Wednesday fans are understandably a bit flabbergasted. After an amazing finish to last season, just falling short of the season. Wednesday were expected to get off to a flier and be challenging for a play off spot but brian Laws fins himself under pressure after a home defeat to Bristol City in front of the cameras.

Paul Simpson is under similar pressure as Preston on their worst run for several years need to stop the rot otherwise the recent vote of confidence could turn quite quickly into the sack.

Henderson who underwent surgery may well be back to take over the gloves after Lonergan filled in at Coventry. Player of last season Hill played in the reserves in midweek so Simpson looks set to leave him out once again.

Jones will play at right back, Davidson on the left with Mawene to play alongside either Chilvers or St Ledger at the back.

Many have called for Lewis Neal to be given a chance on the left but the boss still prefers Danny Pugh who has been below par of late. On the right wing there is a tough choice to make with Whaley who has been poor all season or Sedgewick who albeit is solid will not win Preston games.

Carter and Nicholls will be allowed to solidify their midfield partnership with no one challenging except the outcasted Nowland and Jarrett.

Hawley keeps banging them in the reserve games but the ex-Carlisle man must have done something wrong as Simspon has rarely allowed him near the first team pitch. Mellor missed the reserves match meaning he may well start this Saturday as the boss chops and changes again up front. Ormerod is likely to mis sout playing in the reserves. Agyemang may well start with Carroll having been on international duty in midweek having to settle for a place on the bench.

Anything less than a win will most likely provide the inevitable post match boos and yet more calls for the manager's head.
