You can’t start to begin to think how Craig Brown must be thinking, after 2 penalty decisions and one offside decision were turned down. But Brown coolly stated in an interview after the game that he wasn’t going to complain about the referee.
He said "It’s no good sounding off – it never changes anything."
"Cressy’s was a blatant penalty, his jersey was pulled.
"I usually ask the question: If it had happened anywhere else on the pitch would the referee had given a foul?
"I think so. But it’s more difficult to give a penalty, especially in front of the West Ham fans. As for the winning goal, I was complaining at the time that Connolly looked as though he was well and clearly offside.
I asked the TV people, who have the benefit of many replays, and they said we should have had one, maybe two penalties and they also said that the goal could maybe have been offside.
When commenting on the performance of his team, he said: "It was a good game and it could have gone either way.
"West Ham had a game plan and stuck to it well.
"I thought our lads played well, but the delivery of crosses was poor.
"We got into good areas, but we failed to make use of crosses from wide positions apart from Eddie Lewis’ early goal.
"Too many of our crosses were knocked too long or at the ‘keeper David James."
